A botcher - that's how in Middle Ages and later times a craftsman working outside the guild system was called. Disrespectful of rigorous guild quality and price regulations, a symbol of poor workmanship, but at the same time - a true pioneer of free market.
Company of Botchers is an unofficial group of craftsmen recreating the material culture of past ages, mainly the Middle Ages, though some of us reach much further, even to the Antiquity. We call ourselves "Botchers" out of perversity - the popular meaning of the word has nothing to do with the high quality of our goods. Our main goal is strict historical recreation - not only making goods similar to those that were in use hundreds or more years ago, but also using techniques and materials of those times.
Our works are based on historical studies, archeological finds and iconography - remembering to maintain a wide context and a critical approach to information.
